"Menopause hangover" refers to the experience of more severe and prolonged hangovers in women during perimenopause and menopause, despite consuming a similar amount of alcohol as before. This intensified reaction is primarily due to changes in alcohol metabolism and the body's response to alcohol during this life stage.
What if you experience these symptoms and you haven't had a drop of alcohol beverage in your system??? I call this the "Mystery Menopause Hangover". This is due to hormonal fluctuations and changes in how the body is metabolizing macronutrients in your body. Other factors will include the obvious yet not so obvious of your water intake, your sleep patterns, any fatigue, and your mental mindset.
Tips to avoid this feeling are:
stay hydrated (drink half your body weight in ounces)
establish a regular sleep pattern
avoid foods with added sugars
avoid caffeine and alcohol
exercise regularly (& chiropractic checkup)
If you know in advance you will have a different sleep pattern and eating schedule or you have to skip out on an exercise routine, make sure to keep reading.
I have a simple Mystery Menopause Hangover Recipe for a delicious drink to hydrate yourself with before you fall asleep, that will help your digestive system which will in turn help your hormones; and prevent a mystery menopause hangover. Who wants to feel like they have been drinking all night, and they actually weren't?
